Photographs store & share

I spent some time today searching for a website that would allow me and my students to upload and store photographs and share them. One that seems really easy to use is FotoTime.

This site will allow users to store and organise photographs into folders and then to share individual photos or photo collections. You can add captions to photos and tag them to loactions on a map. Photographs can be shared by emailing a link, copying html code which the site can generate and embedding it in a website or blog or by using the site generated URL. All this and more for free.

Creative Software

Creative Docs .NET offer a powerful design tool which can be freely downloaded from the internet. This software can enable users to quickly create a range of documants including manuals, posters, illustrations, schemas, plans and diagrams.

Survey Monkey

If you wish to conduct surveys (either for student feedback or as part of classes) SurveyMonkey is a really good survey site. You can design your own survey, selecting from a range of question types, and make it available online for people to complete by emailng a link or adding a link to your website. It will then summarise your results and enable you to analyse them in a number of ways.

This site offers a free basic service but you can upgrade for additional features.

Advice for students about Food and Survival

A group of university students reflecting on their first-year experience came up with the idea of writing a cookery book for students. In addition to their book, the students have launched a website offering recipies, tips, videos, downloads and advice for students.

This may be of use or interest for students (or even those of us who are not students!)

Online File Storage

If you are like me, you are likely to find yourself working from more than one computer location and so accessing files at these different locations requires the use of a disk or memory stick. However, it is possible to store your files online so these can be accessed from anywhere with internet access. Kevin Purdy offers a good list of possible online storage sites with a feature comparison chart on the Lifehacker site.

British History

British History Online offers a digital library of printed primary and secondary sources for the British medieval and modern history.

It has been created by the Institute of Historical Research and the History of Parliament Trust, and aims to support academic and personal users around the world in their learning, teaching and research.

Free Teaching Resources - MIT

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) publish many MIT courses' resources online. These free lecture notes, exams, and videos are accessible from the site without the need to register.
